JOB SUMMARY:

The Laboratory Supervisor, Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist, is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership and supervision of the Hematology/ Coagulation department including the technical, financial, and human resource operations.The Laboratory Supervisor, Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist, is also responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance and serving as a liaison to laboratory administration, other hospital services, patients and clients.The Laboratory Supervisor, Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist, reports to the Core Laboratory manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%.

Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

Manage the day-to-day technical operations and personnel resources. Develop and maintain standardized operating procedures and policies.

Assure that all procedures are reviewed for accuracy as compared to current procedures and regulatory guidelines.

Review, monitor, track and trend technical and employee performance.

Establish processes for appropriate documentation and responses to any quality issue or complaint.

Develop, establish and supervise a comprehensive quality management program.

Ensure compliance with all accrediting regulatory agencies and applicable Federal or State law.

Manage staff to include interviewing, performance evaluations, work assignments and disciplinary actions.

Identify and address any employee performance issues within departmental and Human Resources guidelines.

Assists with the preparation and management of the departmental budget.

Provide justification for equipment, staffing and operational needs. Establish initial and continuing training of personnel for positions.

Serve as expert and consultant for evaluation and analysis of questionable test results.

Act as liaison between the laboratory and other hospital services.

Assists with the department workload as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Baccalaureate degree in medical laboratory science, or related science required.

MLS/ MT (ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist/ Medical Technologist - American Society of Clinical Pathology, Health and Human Services Certification required. CM required if certified after 2004.

10 years of experience in Hematology and Coagulation disciplines required.

5 years of experience in Hematology/ Coagulation lab which performs significant testing for oncology practice(s) required.

Previous supervisory or leadership experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Specialist Certification: Specialist in Hematology, SH (ASCP) preferred. If certified after 2004 CM preferred.

Experience working with middleware with basic knowledge of rule writing preferred.

Experience working with LIS system specialists preferred.
