The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for coordinating and collaborating the overall decontamination, assembly, sterilization and staging of surgical instruments and supplies needed for daily surgical procedures in Surgical Services and related departments. The Sterile Processing Technician position requires continuous customer service, attention to detail, and successful repetition of processes to include quality control documentation and active communication within a moderately physically demanding environment.
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the control of all parts of the sterilization process; including manual/automated cleaning and disinfection, preparation and assembly of instrumentation, sterilization and storage of surgical instrumentation, and the staging of sterile instruments and disposable supplies using a case cart system. The Sterile Processing Technician is also responsible for using the automated inventory systems for instruments and disposables, the safe operation of manual and automated equipment and procedures involving biological and chemical hazards, and adherence to all behavioral and procedural policies within the department and the healthcare system.
High School Diploma or GED
Satisfactory completion of a program of orientation and training related to sterilization, processing, decontamination and distribution of supplies.
Provide evidence of one of the following:
1. IAHCSMM Certified Registered Central Service Technician OR
2. CBSPD Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician
Previous experience as a Surgical Technician or Sterile Processing Technician preferred
