The VP of Nursing provides leadership, strategic direction and responsibility for the practice of nursing and has overall responsibility and accountability for the patient care provided in the Ambulatory and the Adult Acute Care inpatient units and nursing practice in the Penn State Health Medical Group Academic Practice Division (APD). As a member of the executive team, the VP of Nursing supports and facilitates an interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of patient and family centered care. This includes creating a nursing environment in which collaboration in values and excellence in clinical care, education, research and community outreach is promoted and achieved. In collaboration with executive and senior leadership of the Academic Practice Division, the VP of Nursing directs and evaluate programs and efficiencies in clinical care. The VP of Nursing will develop and align nursing strategy and tactics to support overall hospital goals and take accountability for providing effective and meaningful leadership to execute on key initiatives.


  • Graduate degree required. If the graduate degree is in a related discipline other than nursing, then the baccalaureate degree must be in nursing according to the ANA Scope and Standards 2010.

  • Five (5) years healthcare management experience, including nursing and physician relations experience required.

  • Representative knowledge, skills and abilities of Nurse Administrators per the ANA Scope and Standards required.

  • Currently licensed or will be eligible to practice as a registered nurse by the Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.


  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred.

  • Certification in Nursing Administration preferred.
