RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities of the Vice Dean for Education include:

• Administrative oversight of, and budgetary responsibility for, offices of medical education, student affairs, graduate medical education, and affiliated academic campuses; direct responsibility delegated to associate deans; oversight of the physician assistant program, the office of global health, clinical simulation center, George T. Harrell Health Sciences Library and the office of medical education research

• Chief Judicial Affairs Officer for the Hershey Campus (nursing, medical and graduate students)

• Provide administrative oversight for medical school curriculum in accordance with LCME Standards

• Ex-Officio member of Committee for Undergraduate Medical Education (CUMED) and the Academic Progress Committee

• Oversight of teaching affiliation agreements with participating institutions

• Preparation of Dean’s letters (one of three individuals who do this)

• Counseling and advising students

• Participate with Academic Team in strategic planning for educational mission

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• MD/DO, Ph.D., or Doctorate in Education

• Record of successful administrative experience in an academic medical center in a position such as associate or assistant dean, department chair, or division chief

• Record of scholarship and research accomplishments that would merit the rank of full professor

• Satisfactory credentials as an educator including record of accomplishment in the scholarship of education

• Knowledgeable in the use of technology in the support of educational goals
