Under the direction of the Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office Administrative Director, Lead day-to-day operations of clinical research studies conducted by principal investigator(s) at Penn State Cancer Institute (PSCI ) Clinical Trials Office (CTO); performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of clinical research data; introduced to the navigating process in the clinical research environment.

The oncology research nurse plays a key role in presenting treatment alternatives and an assessment of treatment risks and benefits associated with each clinical oncology trial. The oncology research nurse’s primary role is to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with each protocol and to assist principal investigators in coordinating and facilitating the activities of participants in clinical research. They are responsible for identifying clinically significant events through patient assessments and review of a variety of medical documents (e.g. medical records, laboratory reports). Obtain informed consent for trial participation, review the inclusion/exclusion requirements of each protocol, coordinate assess subjects response to therapy and evaluate for adverse events, review laboratory data and communicate abnormal lab values. Additionally, provide education specific to the study treatment plan, expected and potential side effects, assesses and documents subject compliance with medications and visits. Organizational management of all aspects of clinical trials including but not limited to timelines completion of case report forms, data entry, reporting Serious Adverse Events (SAE), and managing caseloads and study files. The research nurse is responsible for following institutional standards of research nursing practice within his/her scope of duties and responsibilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Current RN Licensure BSN or Associate Degree in Nursing.

  • With Associates Degree, required to enroll to BSN within three (3) years of their start date.

  • Oncology clinical nursing experience at least two (2) years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Bachelor's of Nursing Degree one (1) year Clinical Trials Research experience
