Reporting directly to the Penn State Health and College of Medicine Privacy Director, the Privacy Officer is responsible to monitor, implement and administer privacy policies, procedures and compliance initiatives. Monitors, and remains knowledgeable with, laws, standards and trends effecting privacy and compliance initiatives. Participates in initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing monitoring activities. Performs investigations and tracks privacy related incidents and violations. Performs incident and breach assessments, and communicates findings to internal stakeholders, management, regulatory agencies and effected individuals when appropriate. Answers policy and regulatory related questions from personnel and management. Assists in or conducts training initiatives.


Bachelors Degree plus five years of privacy, legal, healthcare information management, and/or compliance experience required or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.


Experience within healthcare and/or health insurance privacy is preferred.

Professional privacy certifications a plus (e.g., Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), etc.).
