Job Summary:

The Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, Department of Pediatrics and Penn State Hershey College of Medicine proposes to recruit a Research Scientist or Scientist-Practitioner who will serve as a faculty member in the Center for the Protection of Children (CPC). The successful candidate will have an established track record and national reputation for clinically-related research in the area of child maltreatment. Researchers from Pediatrics (specifically Child Abuse Pediatrics), or other medical specialties whose research focuses on child maltreatment issues will be considered, as will researchers from fields such as psychology, epidemiology, neuroscience and other basic sciences. Broadly relevant programmatic research areas will be considered, but those that integrate well with the clinical and research priorities of the CPC and the Network on Child Protection and Well-Being (the Network) are preferred. An attractive start-up package includes 50-75% protected research time, with opportunities to build new collaborations with Network faculty at the College of Medicine and University Park campuses. The CPC currently includes Board Certified child abuse pediatricians, general pediatricians, social workers, psychologists and support staff. The CPC has been accredited by the ACGME for a Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship. Clinical venues include Penn State Health’s Children’s Hospital and Medical Center the region’s only level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center which provides the full complement of pediatric specialties that support clinical practice. The Penn State Health “Transforming the Lives of Children Research and Treatment Center” (TLC) clinic in nearby Harrisburg offers evidence-based mental health services, serves as the clinical research site for investigating best practices in mental health assessment and treatment of traumatized children, harsh parenting, as well as sexual behavior problems in children. The clinic employs psychologists (clinical and research) and master’s level trauma trained therapists, has an active psychology post-doctoral training program, and provides internships in psychology and social work. A strong collaboration with Pinnacle Health Children’s Resource Center (an NCA accredited Children’s Advocacy Center) is in place and provides further clinical and research opportunities.

PhD or PsyD from an APA-approved clinical psychology program

Pre-doctoral internship from an APA approved site and

One year of postdoctoral experience in a medical setting
