The Penn State Health Life Lion Critical Care Transport team is seeking skilled and dedicated Paramedics to autonomously provide Critical Life Support Care and/or stabilization of chronically or acutely ill and/or injured adult and pediatric patients for both on scene and inter-hospital facility transports under protocols established by the Medical Director. The paramedics collaborate with other health team members and associated resource persons to provide continuity in patient care, problem solve, and implement treatment modalities and interventions in an effort to maximize patient outcomes.

Paramedics will monitor and evaluate invasive and non-invasive procedures and their therapeutic effect, including the monitoring and operation of the fully functional critical care transport ventilator, ventricular assist devices (including, but not limited to, IABP, Abio-med,Tandem Heart, Heartmate), ECMO support, and ventriculostomies. Additional duties include performing advanced and basic airway techniques and treatment modalities, including oxygen therapy, airway maintenance, assisted ventilation, nasal and oral endotracheal intubation, surgical cricothyrotomy, and needle thoracostomy. Paramedics also assist the Critical Care Transport Nurse with rapid sequence pharmacological induction to facilitate intubation, as well as administers and maintains pharmacologic agents and intravenous fluids at the prehospital scene, during transport (air or ground) and during interhospital transfer.


High School diploma or GED required.

5 years of experience as an EMT-P in a busy 911 system required.

Department of Transportation (DOT) National Standard Curriculum for EMT-P required. Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic certification within the Commonwealth of PA or Pre-Hospital Health Professional credential required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support required.

Emergency Vehicle Operations Course are required.

Candidate must have a valid Pennsylvania State Drivers License as well as the physical stamina to work in an unstructured environment during periods of inclement weather and be able to move over rough terrain.

NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 required


Able to stand frequently; walk occasionally; sit frequently.

Able to lift/carry 0-10 frequently; 11-100+ lbs occasionally.

Able to push 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.

Able to pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-100 lbs occasionally.

Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.

Able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.

International Trauma Life Support or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support CertificationPreferred

FP-C preferred (Flight Paramedic Certified) preferred
