The Flow Cytometry laboratory scientist is responsible for efficient and accurate performance of high complexity flow cytometry testing, following established procedures, and maintaining proper quality control. Flow Cytometry results provide necessary information for the diagnosis and treatment of leukemias, lymphomas, and other blood disorders. The laboratory scientist will also be responsible for lymphocyte subset testing, which aids in the diagnostic evaluation of primary immunodeficiencies. This position will contribute to the development and validation of new flow cytometry assays that appropriately adhere to CLIA and CAP regulations.
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science required.
MLS (ASCP) – Medical Laboratory Scientist, American Society of Clinical Pathology, CLT (HHS) Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Health and Human Services Certification, and/or category specific technologist certifications offered by the American Society of Pathology such as BB (ASCP), C(ASCP), H(ASCP), M(ASCP), and MB(ASCP) required.
Must be ASCP Certified within one year of employment at the Penn State Hershey Department of Pathology.
Good customer service and communication skills required
Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize work.
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex: National Association Credential Evaluations Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). The applicants is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.
Laboratory experience in a hospital setting preferred
