The Manager of Patient Logistics is responsible for planning, organizing, managing and evaluating the activities of Bed Management and the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Transfer Center, under the direction of the Director of Patient Logistics. This includes the day-to-day coordination of patient flow activities: Oversee timely bed assignment of inpatients from all admission sources; provide continued refinement of patient placement protocols through collaboration with physician groups,clinical services and ancillary departments as appropriate, and provide rapid response to immediate patient placement needs.
In addition, this individual will also manage the PSHMC Transfer Center operations ensuring timely and safe patient transfer from referring institutions, as well as collaborate with Marketing & Communications to increase number of patient referrals. The Manager will also work with nursing and physicians on transfer protocolrefinement/development, and utilize quality data to initiate improvement projects, as well as perform quality audits and manage audit results. This role is also responsible for hiring, disciplinary action, position allocations, performance reviews, and dismissal recommendations.
The Manager will assist with the development of financial and operational targets/goals, and monitor performance against established benchmarks. They will work with Finance, Inpatient Access, Patient Financial Services, Health Information Services, Information Technology, Nurse Managers, Charge Nurses, Administrative Staff and physicians for the purpose of information gathering, problem resolution, and improving reimbursement. Assist with the development, revision, monitoring, implementation of departmental and institutional policies and procedures
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a Master’s Degree in Nursing required.
5 years related work experience required.
Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice by the Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Strong critical thinking, accurate assessment, and problem solving skills required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Attentiveness to detail is required.
High-level analytical ability required in order to resolve complex patient flow issues.
Interpersonal skills required.
Knowledge in nursing concepts, practices, and procedures required.
Experience working across interdisciplinary units preferred
At least 2 years of Management or Supervisory experience preferred
