Hours: Monday - Friday, mid August to June (similar to a school year)
This Counselor position is primarily based in the community traveling to public middle and secondary schools in Cumberland and Perry counties. Counselors travel to schools to meet with Student Assistant Program teams and students referred for a mental health assessment. Duties are interviewing students and families, obtaining a psychosocial history, assessing symptoms and behaviors and formulating a recommendation. This includes referral to available resources, consultation with other professionals, and advising on further treatment. This position also includes presenting at educational trainings to school and community professional staff. Public speaking experience helpful.
The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Conduct clinical interview with client to obtain psychosocial history to assess, evaluate, and analyze the presenting problems and recommend a plan of action.
Follow-up with client and parent/guardian to assist with follow-through of recommendations and/or problem-solve further difficulties.
Maintain a close working relationship with area school districts by participating in Student Assistance Program team meetings.
Serves as a mental health consultant.
Includes providing a timely crisis response in the event of a school death, suicide or other tragedy.
Provide training to school and agency personnel related to the Pennsylvania mandated Student Assistance Program, complying with regulations by the State Department of Education.
Additionally, provides child/adolescent and mental health related training and education to a variety of school, agency and community groups.
Preparation of written material and training information.
Assures the completion of all documentation, written assessments and necessary paperwork for clients.
Responsible for documenting all job activities as required to be submitted to the County and State.
The percentage of time spent performing secondary functions is 5%. The following duties are considered secondary to the essential duties listed above: Other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Science required.
Valid driver's license required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Commonwealth of PA Certification as a Student Assistance Professional required after hire.
