The Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Children's Hospital, and Penn State College of Medicine has launched a national search for the inaugural Chief, Pediatric Otolaryngology Division .

The successful candidate will be a nationally recognized academic leader with a substantial record of leadership, clinical and administrative accomplishments, education scholarship, research productivity, and teaching experience. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced physician leader to significantly impact the growth of the Department of Otolaryngology as we continue to develop and differentiate our regional integrated academic healthcare system. An academic appointment will be at the Associate or Professor level.

Penn State Health Children's Hospital is the only tertiary care pediatric center for infants and children in Central Pennsylvania, serving a population of approximately 2-2.5 million infants, children, and adolescents. The Children's Hospital is an approximately 263,000 square-foot, eight-story hospital with 146 licensed pediatric beds, and it offers the highest level of care with a 56-bed Level IV NICU and 36-bed PICU and an on-campus outpatient surgery center with more than 150,000 pediatric outpatient visits and approximately 5,000 pediatric patient discharges annually. It has been recognized for 12 consecutive years among the best children's hospitals in multiple specialties and named a Level 1 Children's Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons Children's Surgery Verification Program.

Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is central Pennsylvania's only locally based academic medical center. The 619-bed medical center provides adults and children advanced patient-focused care for cancer, heart, vascular and neurological conditions. In addition, it is Pennsylvania's only nationally verified Level I Trauma Center for both children and adults.

The Children's Hospital is the primary pediatric training site for the Penn State College of Medicine and is adjacent to the College of Medicine basic science departments. There are multiple teaching opportunities, working with pediatric residents, medical students, and many other learners throughout the institution. In addition, there are opportunities for both basic and clinical research available throughout the institution. Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine sponsor more than 70 ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs, including otolaryngology, with a total of 14 residents, and pediatrics, with a total of 48 residents. Additionally, it offers two fellowships in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and head and neck oncology.

  • A respected clinical leader with prior leadership and quality initiative experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, inspire, manage, and effectively mentor faculty.

  • Ability to partner with a breadth of pediatric stakeholders to develop, inspire, communicate and operationalize a shared vision and strategic plan

Minimum Requirements

  • MD, DO, or equivalent foreign degree

  • BC/BE in Otolaryngology with completion of a Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship

  • Ability to obtain a medical license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

  • Must be able to obtain valid federal and state narcotics certificates

  • Possess qualifications for faculty appointment required

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic healthcare environment
